Thrive not just survive…

Business success in 2026 is about clarity, focus and execution, not noise or complexity. Here are 5 principles that are working right now.
1 Clear objectives
Every business you run should have 3 to 5 non negotiable KPIs that everyone knows and sees daily, for example revenue, margin, pipeline, utilisation and customer experience.
Give each KPI an owner, agree weekly targets, and review performance in a simple, consistent meeting rhythm so there is never any doubt about what success looks like or who is accountable.
2 Clear routes to new revenue
Write 1 straightforward sales plan for each business that explains exactly how you generate leads, convert them, increase average order value and drive repeat and referral work.
Use your actual data such as job history, enquiry source, seasonality and location to decide where to focus, then turn that into repeatable playbooks and routines that your team can run without you.
3 Modern and traditional marketing together
Blend modern marketing channels such as search, social media, email and content with traditional direct marketing that people can touch, keep and share.
Thoughtful bulky mail, printed guides and well designed physical pieces cut through digital noise and can create a deeper impression than yet another online ad or post.
4 Culture you can feel
Culture is the standard of behaviour when you are not in the room, so define what “good” looks like in simple language such as ownership, responsiveness and pride in standards.
Back that up with practical habits like proper onboarding, clear role scorecards, quick honest feedback and visible recognition so the right behaviours get repeated across every site and venture.
5 Build resilience into the model
Plan for disruption instead of being surprised by it by diversifying revenue streams, protecting cash and knowing your numbers in real time.
Document key processes, review your cost base regularly and make decisions from live data rather than gut feel so you can move fast without putting the whole business at risk.
